Blowing Off Steam, by Michael Badeski
This photograph of the Volcán Arenal was taken by B3 student Michael Badeski in April 2006 in Arenal, Costa Rica. At 1633 meters tall (5360 feet), it is one of the most active volcanoes in the world and has been continuously spewing out ash columns and glowing rock since a major eruption in 1968.
Michael’s team constructed a facility in Tarbaca, which will be used by local organic coffee growers to increase their productivity and increase work opportunities in the area. The facility is up and running, and has proven to be a great success. In addition to being able to grow, package, and distribute their own coffee from the new facility, they’ve opened up a room upstairs where visitors can taste and buy coffee fresh from the farm!
