Cleaning up the Indian River (Excerpt)

Volunteers from Builders Beyond Borders, the Green Village Initiative, and Earthplace combined forces today to clean up a portion of the Indian River in Westport behind an overflow parking lot across Route 136 from the Westport train station. In addition to collecting more than 25 bags of trash, the crew also unearthed a rusted bed spring, a shattered toilet bowl, a bicycle frame, and a TV which was half-submerged in the wetlands. Left behind were the rusted, crumpled remains of a flat bed truck. Another cleanup day for a second portion of the Indian River is tentatively planned for Sunday, April 26.
