Temple I at Tikal, by Billy Rhodes
The iconic Temple I, also known as the Temple of the Giant Jaguar, towers 145 feet over the Great Plaza of Tikal, in northern Guatemala. The Mayans began construction on it in 700 A.D. Billy Rhodes and his team of students and advisors began construction of their own in February of 2008, on their trip to San Andres, Petén, Guatemala. For six days they built the walls of the first high school in the area. Another team followed in April to complete the building. The inauguration took place one month later, and now over 30 students regularly attend school there.
